1919年に英国で設立された子ども支援専門の国際NGO「セーブ・ザ・チルドレン」。この度、新型コロナウイルス感染症から子どもを守るための「緊急こども支援」を立ち上げ、その呼びかけの活動の一貫として、このキャンペーンに賛同した有名人やクリエイターたちが絵本の読み聞かせをする#SaveWithStoriesをインスタグラムにて展開中だ。
5月20日に一人目の紗栄子さんが「ブレーメンのおんがくたい」の読み聞かせをアップし、これまでにアーティストの清川あさみさん、俳優の神木隆之介さんや黒木華さん、そしてママでもある山田優さん、富永愛さん、寺島しのぶさんなど、現時点で70以上の錚々たる著名人が参加している。

「セーブ・ザ・チルドレン」が設立した、新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響でさらなる困難をかかえるひとり親家庭に「食」の状況改善や遊びの機会確保する「ひとり親家庭応援ボックス」は、初回の300世帯への支援の募集はわずか2日間で受付数が定員に達するなど、切迫した状況がうかがえる。対象居住地域と募集世帯数を拡大し、今後も支援の輪を広げていく。

今回の「ひとり親家庭応援ボックス」の申請者のアンケートでは、約6割の世帯の収入が半分以上減少、約2割は収入がゼロになったと回答。さらに、過半数が「十分な量の食料を買うお金がない」としている。まず最初に子どもの健康を脅かす「食」の問題は一刻も早く解消すべき。コロナウイルスから子どもたちを守るために、ぜひこのキャンペーンに注目して。
